It’s important to know how to best prepare an air fryer pizza to make sure it is crispy and not soggy, so let’s begin!
Air Fryer Pizza Recipe
What you’ll need for this easy air fryer pizza recipe:
- Air fryer
- Olive oil or avocado oil cooking spray
- 1 package refrigerated pizza dough (or you can make your own homemade pizza dough)
- 6 tablespoons pizza sauce
- 10 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
- Your favorite toppings (meat, veggies like bell pepper, various cheeses, fresh basil, etc. Whatever you love! Want a unique, kid-friendly combo? Try pepperoni and thinly sliced dill pickles — yum. Want more inspiration? Check out 12 pizza night recipes we can’t live without.)
You can likely find pizza dough at the grocery store for your next pizza night, if you don’t want to use homemade dough.
Directions
- Pre-heat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 380°F. Spray the fryer basket with your cooking oil, or consider using a parchment or silicone liner. (Be sure you choose something that is air fryer friendly — here’s a guide we made to help out!) Be aware that using a barrier may affect cook time.
- Shape the dough into a circle and crimp the edges to form your crust. Adjust the dough to fit into the size of your air fryer basket.
- Carefully transfer one pizza crust to your air fryer basket and spray lightly with cooking oil. Prick the dough lightly with a fork and cook for 3 minutes.
- After 3 minutes has passed, flip your partially cooked pizza dough over in the basket. This will ensure even cooking on both sides, making it a crispy, delicious pizza through and through!
- Don’t flip the dough back over — keep it flipped and now add your pizza sauce onto the crust. Next, sprinkle with half of the serving of mozzarella cheese. Add other toppings, then add the other half of the cheese. This will cook over the top of the pizza and help hold down toppings so that removing your pizza will be easier.
- Cook until the crispy crust is golden brown and the cheese has melted — this should take about 6-8 minutes. Check frequently, however, as cooking times vary. Carefully remove the pizza and serve hot.
And of course, you can always add slightly different toppings or seasonings to these personal pan pizzas — maybe add red pepper flakes to one and Italian seasoning to another, or add pepperoni to some individual pizzas and not others. The best pizza is the one that’s personalized!
Tips for the Best Air Fryer Pizza
Follow our tips for the most delicious homemade pizza:
- Assemble the pizza in the fryer basket to avoid spills, a common kitchen hazard.
- Keep your conventional oven set on the lowest available temperature and keep already-made personal pizzas warm while you wait for the entire family to make their own pizza — then you can all eat together! Not up for making multiple pizzas, one at a time? Try making air fryer pizza rolls.
- Don’t forget to pre-heat the air fryer. Cooking your pizza on a preheated surface will help prevent the dough from being soggy — a common complaint in air fryer pizza mishaps.
- Always flip the dough — forgetting to flip can result in soggy, undercooked pizza, a common complaint from those who have experimented with air fryer pizza.
- Allow some space for air flow. Don’t fill the entire bottom of the pan with a thick crust — leave some space along the edges so the air can circulate and more effectively heat the pizza.
Can You Reheat Pizza in an Air Fryer?
Yes! Reheating a pizza in an air fryer is not only simple but also convenient. It’s much faster than using an oven, and doesn’t leave it moist and soggy like a microwave.
Preheat your air fryer to 320°F. Add your leftover pizza and cook 4-5 minutes.
(Don’t forget to properly recycle your pizza boxes, if possible.)
If your air fryer has a reheat function, you can try using it as well.
Also, be sure to store any leftover pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Learn how long pizza will last in the fridge.
Can You Cook Frozen Pizza in the Air Fryer?
Yes! Air frying frozen, ready-made pizza is a great way to make easy pizza in less time.
You will want to check the packaging for instructions- some have air fryer methods already added! If not, drop the temperature listed for the oven by about 30 degrees F and reduce the cooking time by about 20 percent.
Monitor regularly to ensure that your food is cooking properly — you can adjust temperature and time accordingly, and use a thermometer to check for an internal temperature of at least 165° before serving.
