This recipe calls for brewed coffee and the method you use to brew your coffee is entirely down to you.  You can use instant coffee if you don’t have a way to make brewed coffee, but the coffee flavor in your drink won’t be as strong. For that reason, you may want to use a little more, or even buy an espresso powder to sprinkle into your drink.

Coffee is usually brewed using one of 5 methods:

- Cafetière

- Chemex

- V60

- Aeropress

- Moka pot

One of our favorite ways to brew is using a cafetière, which is a classic brewing method. We always buy ground coffee, but you can also buy whole coffee beans and use a grinder if you prefer.

Buying ground coffee saves you a lot of time in preparation, yet it still tastes great if it's properly stored. When using a cafetière, boil a kettle of water but allow it to cool slightly before using. Then, add around 0.5 oz of ground coffee to the cafetière and 1 cup of water, stirring well.

Pop the lid on but don’t push the cafetière down, just let it sit for about 3-4 minutes to allow the coffee to brew. Now push down the cafetière filter until the ground coffee has been pushed to the bottom. Voila! You have fresh brewed coffee ready to use.

Now, let’s use this brewed coffee to whip up your creamy coffee treat!
