Wonton Soup Recipe - an easy homemade soup with an Asian inspired broth and soft and delicious wontons. Ready in 20 minutes and great for busy weeknights!

As soon as the weather starts to get cold, I am all about soup. It can be a hearty Crock Pot Chili or a quick brothy soup.

But something warm and comforting is what I crave. And I am pretty sure that I am not alone in that at all!

My family loves Asian flavors of just about any kind. Chicken Lo Mein is a great way to get dinner on the table in just minutes.

It can be faster than getting take out, plus you get to control all of the ingredients. Which is why I love this wonton soup recipe.

The way to get this wonton soup recipe on the table in just minutes, is to buy frozen wontons from the grocery store. I love the frozen ones from Costco.

They cook up in about 5 minutes and the filling is delicious. As they cook in the broth they absorb even more flavor!

You can find frozen wontons in just about any grocery store.

This wonton soup broth is super easy to make. It is basically chicken broth that you flavor with garlic, ginger and soy sauce.

Just simmer for a few minutes to infuse the broth with the ginger and garlic and get that nice Asian twist. Then add in the wontons and you can get dinner on the table in just 20 minutes.

What is Wonton Soup?

It is really just an Asian-flavored chicken broth that has Chinese style dumplings simmered in it. To serve, it is often topped with sliced green onions and cilantro.

It is often served as an appetizer or starter. You can make your own wontons or use a little help from the store to make it a quick and easy meal.

How to Make Wonton Soup

  • Simmer chicken broth with cloves of smashed garlic and a piece of peeled ginger
  • Add frozen wontons to the soup and simmer for 5 minutes until they are floating and hot
  • Remove garlic and ginger from the pot and scoop into bowls
  • Top with sliced green onions and fresh cilantro

This wonton soup recipe cannot be easier to make, and it is great on a cold night. I love it as a meal, but you can make it as a starter or first course if you want.

The dumpling will absorb extra liquid as it sits, so only cook as many as you are going to eat. If you want to have leftovers, just add them to leftover broth and heat the next day for quick lunch
