Salted Caramel Milkshake Recipe

Amanda Powell | A Cookie Named Desire

Creamy salted caramel milkshakes are the best part about dessert. They’re super simple to make and customize with as much or little caramel!

One of my favorite ways to end a meal is with a milkshake. They are just so good, and the flavors are pretty much endless.

Salted caramel milkshake is a classic, but perhaps one of the best milkshakes around, and one I like to make at home the most.

Vanilla ice cream makes the best base for a salted caramel milkshake. It is a fairly plain canvas that allows you to control exactly how much caramel you want in your milkshake.

When I am using homemade salted caramel sauce, I find the flavor is stronger and I need less of it.

Store-bought caramel tends to be lighter in flavor and needs more for it to come through as much as I sometimes want.

Although the caramel is already salted, I like to add just a touch more salt to the milkshake to help it shine through more when added to the creamy vanilla ice cream.

You can skip this step if you want, but if you decide to add it, I recommend sticking to kosher salt, or even a flaky sea salt.

The fine salt you use in your regular cooking or on your table will not work as well.

There are no differences among the different types of whipped cream you use. The stuff in the can is just as good as the stuff you make at home when it comes to topping your salted caramel milkshake.

The only reason I prefer the homemade whipped cream is because you can whip it stiffer so that you can really build it up higher and I am all about that extra whipped cream!

You can also make this salted caramel milkshake boozy if you want. I have a creamy salted caramel liqueur that I love adding, but you can also use infused vodkas or even a splash of bourbon!
