Gluten Free Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe

Kristy Still | Mommy Hates Cooking

Gluten Free Sweet and Sour Chicken is the most delicious dinner made in an air fryer! The whole family will love this simple and healthy meal.

If there is one appliance you really need it’s an Air Fryer. I have fallen in love hard with my Air Fryer; did you know you can even make donuts in it? It literally can do just about anything and it makes dinner so easy! Recently, I’ve really enjoyed making Asian-inspired meals with it like this gluten free sweet and sour chicken.

I have tried Gluten Free Air Fryer Honey Garlic Chicken & Gluten Free Air Fryer Mongolian Beef, now I’m moving along to this Gluten Free Air Fryer Sweet and Sour Chicken. Each of these is absolutely delicious.

The method is simple, just cut up chicken thighs, and then coat them with cornstarch. Once they are nicely coated, you toss them into the Air Fryer and cook them for just a few minutes.

Once they are cooked, coat them with the sauce of your choice and serve over rice with green beans. It will be an instant favorite in your home, plus the choices of sauce are basically endless.

I knew that Sweet and Sour would soon be on my list to try because that’s my longstanding favorite.

This dinner was completely done within about 25 minutes. It makes for a very simple dinner, plus it tastes like it could have been fried with oil, but really it’s your Air Fryer doing its magic.

Think of all the options that you could do in the Air Fryer. I am planning to do some Gluten Free Fried Okra this summer. I plant a lot of okra in the garden and this year, I am so anxious to try it in the Air Fryer.

This Gluten Free Baked Parmesan Chicken would also be the perfect recipe to use the Air Fryer!

Now, it’s time to get yourself an Air Fryer and try this Gluten Free Sweet and Sour Chicken.

Gluten Free Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe

    4 Servings

Ingredients

  • 6 thighs Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch, plus more for coating the chicken
  • 1 clove Garlic, crushed
  • 8 ounces Canned Pineapple, juice reserved
  • 1 Green Pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup Sweet Onion, diced
  • 1 3/4 cups Water
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Distilled White Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Tamari Gluten Free Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Ketchup
  • Cooked Rice, optional

Directions

  1. Cut the chicken into cubed chunks, then toss in a bowl with the starch. Use enough to coat the chicken evenly.
  2. Place in the Air Fryer and cook according to the Air Fryer Manual for chicken. (Ours is cooked on 390°F for 25 minutes.)
  3. Halfway through the cook time, turn the chicken.
  4. While the chicken is cooking, in a small saucepan, combine the garlic, pineapple chunks with the juice, pepper, onion, water, sugar, vinegar, and the soy sauce.
  5. Whisk in the ketchup and let it get to a nice, low boil.
  6. Whisk in the cornstarch and continue cooking for about 5 minutes until it’s thickened.
  7. Remove the chicken from the Air Fryer and then add the sauce and coat the chicken with it.
  8. Top the chicken over the cooked rice.
  9. Serve.
