The problem with standard honey mustard dressings is the honey, which is loaded with carbs.

This recipe uses Truvia instead, which is a perfect substitute and means that you still get that lovely sweet flavor without ruining your diet.

And unlike many salad dressings, this one uses sour cream instead of mayonnaise, so you get all the creaminess but with fewer calories.

Making Dressing with Apple Cider Vinegar

This dressing is made with apple cider vinegar, an ingredient we love! It's so flavorful and tart.

Not all brands are created equal, but the very best brands are organic and contain the 'mother' (which should be marked on the label).

Whereas some brands of apple cider vinegar are filtered and look reasonably light in color, others are not filtered at all.

This results in a darker color and the appearance of 'bits' in the vinegar.

Whilst this may not sound very pleasant, those 'bits' are actually the mother and contain plenty of probiotics that are good for your digestion.

Unfiltered vinegar with the mother is usually a bit more expensive than the filtered variety, but we think it's worth paying a bit extra for all that goodness!

You can adjust the texture to be a bit thicker by using more sour cream, or thinner by using more vinegar.

You could give it more 'bite' by adding extra mustard or really raise the heat by including a good pinch of cayenne pepper.

You could even mix in a clove or two of crushed, roasted garlic which adds a lovely mellow flavor.

How to Store Homemade Honey Mustard Dressing

The dressing should last in the fridge for around 7 to 10 days, as long as you keep it in an airtight container.

To cut down on your clean-up time, you could mix the dressing in a mason jar instead of a mixing bowl, then store it in that!
