This bourbon-based Old Fashioned recipe brings the aroma of a campfire and includes a touch of maple syrup.
Looking at the photo of this Old Fashioned, I can practically hear a campfire crackling, can see the flames licking the cool fall air, can taste the hint of maple syrup and black walnut this cocktail contains.
Maybe that’s just because it’s almost 5 o’clock and today is the kind of day when I’d love to lean back in an adirondack chair next to a fire pit with a chest-warming drink in my hand. Either way, I’m tempted to stop typing this and go make myself a Campfire Old Fashioned.

I think that technically counts as working, right? If my boss is reading this, I think she’d agree that’s considered legitimate research.
This recipe comes to us courtesy of Bib & Tucker, and uses their small-batch bourbon “aged in the rolling hills of Tennessee” that doesn’t include any “additives, artificial flavors, or artificial colors.”
Campfire Old Fashioned Ingredients
You’ll need these ingredients to make the Campfire Old Fashioned recipe! The garnish is optional but will elevate the look of your drink.
- 2 parts Bib & Tucker Double Char Bourbon
- 0.25 part Maple Syrup
- 2 dashes Coffee Pecan Bitters
- 2 dashes Black Walnut Bitters
- Orange Peel (to garnish)
If you (like me) don’t have coffee pecan bitters or black walnut bitters at home already, you can find both online or at some retailers.
Instructions
Follow these incredibly simple steps to make your cocktail!
- Add Bib & Tucker Double Char Bourbon, maple syrup, and bitters to mixing glass over ice.
- Stir for 30 seconds until cold.
- Strain liquid over fresh ice into rocks glass and garnish with orange peel.
