Trust Us: You Should Freeze Grapes

Here’s why you should really start freezing your grapes for the perfect snack.

My wife thinks it’s a little weird that I like to freeze grapes. But there are several reasons I find them so satisfying!

I can’t remember who first introduced the idea of freezing grapes to me, or if it’s just something I started doing. We often have a bag of store-bought mixed frozen fruit in the freezer, and sometimes I’ll pop a couple of blueberries in my mouth. Maybe that’s where I got the concept from, but it’s possible I ran across the idea somewhere.

How to Freeze Grapes

I’ve never encountered commercially sold frozen grapes, and a quick internet search didn’t turn up anything credible. But the process for making them yourself is ridiculously easy.

  1. Buy fresh, seedless grapes (always red for me).
  2. Wash and de-stem them.
  3. While still somewhat wet, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag and store them overnight.

I would always have these stocked in my freezer if grapes weren’t generally pretty expensive and if they didn’t disappear so fast! I’ll end up popping almost a dozen in my mouth pretty rapidly. They’re the perfect snack, and much healthier than most the easy-to-grab options you’ll buy at the store.

Why You Should Freeze Your Grapes

Frozen grapes are superior to fresh ones for several key reasons, which is why I swear by this kitchen tip:

  • You preserve their freshness. Better condition and longer lasting!
  • The process apparently brings out their natural sweetness, making them tastier.
  • The texture and crunch are better, but they are still easy to consume.
  • The cool temperature can be refreshing, especially in the summer.

Seriously, Just Try It

If you’re unconvinced, try it anyway and see what you think! You can use any kind of grapes as long as they’re seedless.

Plus, I’m not the only one who thinks grapes are better frozen — it turns out they’re a popular summer snack, though I’ve never encountered someone else doing this.
