Slow Cooker Cobbler, you ask? Slow cookers don’t have to be just for a main entrée - make your next dessert in the slow cooker and utilize fresh or frozen berries you have on hand!
I will be the first to admit that I always make main entrée dishes in the slow cooker. Very rarely do I ever make a side dish (minus my baked potatoes in the slow cooker), and I’ve never made a dessert in the slow cooker. But I’ve tried challenging myself lately and really crossing boundaries in the kitchen.
I live in Florida, and I’m lucky to have at my disposal berries year round. During the few months of the year I don’t have that luxury, I utilize the fresh berries from the past season that I froze.
I always make sure to stock up and freeze at least a few gallons of berries while they are inexpensive and in season; for day’s when I’m craving a fresh berry smoothie or even a cobbler like this one. There's nothing like knowing you have a freezer full of berries in the dead of winter to see you through. Believe it or not, we do get freezing temperatures down here in Florida.
I’ve made this berry cobbler in the slow cooker with both fresh and frozen berries. Each method I’ve tried has yielded the same perfect berry cobbler, so choose whatever berries you have on hand. For this particular incarnation I used strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, but you can use whatever berries you like. Blackberries would be amazing.
The dough to the cobbler has just the right amount of sweetness. It’s not overpowering and works perfect with the berries. I love to serve a warm cobbler with a scoop of French vanilla ice cream.
