This honey tangerine smash is a surefire way to brighten those winter blues! A splash of bourbon, a touch of honey, and plenty of fresh mint and tangerine juice makes this one happy drink.
Can we get some cheers for citrus season? Out of all the fruit seasons of the year, this is one that I do not cheat on (minus lemons and limes, because you can good ones year one). I’ll go ahead and have so-so berries in the off-season if I’m out, or they appear on a breakfast plate, and the same goes with melon.
Citrus fruits, though? No - those are solely reserved for the winter months because nothing makes up for a bland-tasting orange.
Although when I say citrus, I’m talking way beyond your standard juice orange. Tangerines, Satsumas, Clementines, Cara Caras, Blood Oranges, Grapefruits, Meyer lemons, Tangelos… okay, I could go on and list them all, but I won’t. I sort of did, but I’ll stop – really!
I buy so many that I generally have hardly any room left in my refrigerator for much else. Obviously I love to snack on them, but my real love goes for cocktail-making. There is no substitute for fresh juice, and you can’t beat the color of a freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit or blood orange.
Plus, I can’t think of a spirit that all those fruits I just listed doesn’t go with. We all know the one thing that helps get you through a long hard winter is a bright and colorful drink, and this smash does just that.
I honestly don’t think it’s possible to be sad with a bourbon smash in hand. Filled with fresh juice and plenty of mint the aroma draws you in after that is the bright orange and stark green color. The only problem I ever see is how quickly this drink disappears. Good thing I have plenty of citrus on hand to mix up another!
