Paula Deen Pecan Squares Recipe

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 1/3 cups light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 and spray a 13 X 9-inch pan with vegetable oil. Also, dust with flour.
  2. Beat the eggs with a whisk in a bowl and stir in the brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Pour into the top of a double boiler.
  4. Cook this mixture over simmering water for 20 minutes, stirring constantly, until it reaches 180 degrees F.
  5. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Sift the one-and-a-half cups of flour, baking powder and salt together.
  7. Add the pecans to flour mixture and mix into the cooked mixture.
  8. Add vanilla and stir until combined.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and place the pan in the oven. Bake for around 25 minutes.
  10. Let it cool completely in the pan before cutting into pieces. Store in an airtight tin in the refrigerator.
