Teresa's New England Clam Chowder

Can't Stay Out of the Kitchen

 

This sensational New England-style Clam Chowder is chocked full of minced clams, red potatoes, celery, leeks, shallots, and garlic in a rich, cream sauce seasoned to perfection. Gluten free.

Ingredients

  • 6 cans minced clams plus ½ to ¾ cup reserved juice
  • 1 small onion (diced or 2-3 small shallots)
  • 2 potatoes (cubed)
  • 2 stalks celery (diced)
  • 1 leek, quartered and sliced (omit green tops)
  • 2-3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 qt. heavy cream
  • 1 qt. half-and-half cream
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour or gluten free flour (more if necessary)
  • 1 tbsp. parsley (more if desired)
  • 1/2 tsp. celery salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Mrs. Dash seasoning
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 - 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tbsp. chives
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp. Old Bay Seasoning
