Southern Cherry Cobbler

Can't Stay Out of the Kitchen

 

This fantastic cobbler includes fresh cherries, almond extract and a delicious biscuit-type topping sprinkled with sugar before baking. It's a terrific summer dessert when fresh cherries are in season.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups cherries (pitted, halved )
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour ( (bleached flour toughens baked goods) )
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter (cold (3/4 cup or 12-tbsp.) )
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 3 tbsp. white sugar
