Meatball Sandwiches

Can't Stay Out of the Kitchen

 

Succulent and delectable meatballs are layered on hoagie or submarine rolls. Then mozzarella or provolone cheese is melted over top. Terrific sandwich for tailgating parties or weekend suppers.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 lb. bulk Italian sausage
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1 cup Italian style bread crumbs
  • 3 tbsp. milk (or half-and-half)
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 3/4 tsp. sea salt
  • 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/8 tsp. rubbed sage
  • 1 lb. bulk Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup Chopped green pepper
  • 12 oz. sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 14.5 oz. can stewed tomatoes
  • 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 12 oz. can tomato paste
  • 2 tsp brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 Hoagie or Submarine sandwich rolls
  • 12 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese (or more if desired)
