Banana Bread Bars with Browned Butter Frosting

These lovely dessert bars are topped with a fantastic Browned Butter Frosting that's absolutely heavenly. Great way to use up overripe bananas too.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Gold Medal UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour (bleached flour toughens baked goods)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, softened (1/2 cup)
  • 1 cup sour cream (I used ½ cup sour cream and ½ cup Greek yogurt)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 ripe bananas (mashed with a fork)
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 cup finely diced walnuts
  • <li class="ERSeparator">BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING:
  • 1 stick unsalted butter (½ cup)
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tbsp. milk or half-and-half
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup finely diced walnuts for garnish (if desired)
