And the great thing is that you will never need to run out of your favorite sweet topping again, as it is so quick and easy to just whip up another batch!

This sugar free chocolate syrup recipe is low in calories!

A low calorie chocolate syrup recipe sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? But it is SO worth making the switch from the sugary version, some of which can add a whopping 100 calories to your dessert or more!

And the great thing is that you don't need to compromise on flavor - this version tastes so good you won't even be able to tell the difference.

This recipe calls for Splenda - a low calorie artifical sweetener made from sucralose. The most popular artificial sweetener on the market, it is known as a 'high intensity' sweetener because it is 600 times sweeter than sugar!

Unlike many other artifical sweeteners which lose their sweetness when heated, Splenda is stable up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can use it in all sorts of recipes as a sugar replacement.

The only real downside in using Splenda as opposed to regular sugar is that it won't brown or caramelize, so it can't replace sugar in every recipe.

Want a richer chocolate syrup?

This recipe uses water as the main liquid, but if you'd like your syrup to have a richer taste and texture, you could use milk instead.

If you'd rather not use cow's milk, you could try unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk.

Fun ways to use your homemade chocolate syrup

Once you've prepared your chocolate syrup using the recipe below, you can keep it in the fridge for 2 to 3 weeks, meaning you will always have some on hand for a guilt-free sweet treat whenever you like.

Here are some ideas for using it...

- Drizzle it over ice cream sundaes - you could add a topping of nuts or sprinkles.

- Use it in place of regular syrup on your pancakes.

- Pour it over freshly cooked waffles

- Use it as a dip for fresh fruit! Everyone loves chocolate covered strawberries, but you could also use your syrup as a dip for sliced apples, banana, grapes... the list goes on! Sliced fruit and a little pot of this chocolate syrup would make a healthy treat to pop inside your child's lunch for school!

- Pour it into cold milk to make a quick and easy chocolate milkshake. Or heat the chocolate milk in the microwave for a simple hot chocolate, which you could top with mini marshmallows and an extra squirt of syrup for good measure!

- Love a sweet and salty combo? Use it as a dip for pretzels - simply delicious!
