There are few days that calls for quite as much celebration at St. Patrick's Day!
Revellers across the globe are united in their determination to have as much fun as possible on the day honoring the patron saint of Ireland, when Irish culture is celebrated in grand style.
A key part of the festivites at any good St Patrick's day party are the drinks - but just what drinks should be served and are there any traditional ones that you just have to include?
Here are some ideas!
No St. Patrick's Day party would be complete without Guinness, the dry, dark Irish stout with its distinctive creamy head.
You can, of course, serve Guinness just as it is - or you can change things up a little by combining it with chocolate ice cream to create a mouthwatering party treat!
Try this recipe for a Chocolate Guinness Float - your guests will love you for it!
The Nutty Irishman Cocktail
Keeping it deliciously decadent is the The Nutty Irishman Cocktail, an indulgent mixture of Irish Whiskey, Irish Cream, Frangelico and coffee, all topped with a nice swirl of whipped cream.
Green Jello Shots
Bringing out the shots is always the high point of the party - and serving vivid green jello shots is the perfect way to celebrate St. Patrick's day.
A pub favorite on this special day is the delightfully lurid Green Beer - but it's actually easy to make your own!
All you need to do is buy yourself a bottle of green food coloring and add just one drop to a beer glass.
Then top the glass up with your favorite beer (but be sure to use a light colored beer, so the green color really shines through). Add a second drop of coloring for a deeper green, if required.
Homemade Irish Cream Liqueur
Irish Cream Liqueur is an integral part of many St. Patrick's Day drinks - but you don't have to rely on the store bought version!
If you REALLY want to wow your guests, why not have a go at making it yourself with this simple Homemade Irish Cream Liqueur Recipe?
Pot of Gold
Whilst none of us may ever have been lucky enough to disover that leprechaun's pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, we can make our own Pot of Gold Cocktail instead!
It doesn't actually contain any Irish ingredients, but it has a lovely pale green color and it tastes wonderful!
All you need to do is muddle 4 slices of cucumber with 8 fresh mint leaves. Pour in 2 ounces of vodka and 1/2 ounce of elderflower liqueur, pop the lid on and shake well.
Strain into a nice cold cocktail glass and top with one ounce of cold ginger beer.
This is a kind of cocktail made with Irirsh whiskey, such as Jameson, Bushmills or Tullamore D.E.W. The whiskey is combined with ginger beer and lime juice to provide a refreshing drink with lots of authentic Irish flavor.
Now you've got the drinks organized, it's time to look for some St. Patrick's Day food to go with them!
