Taylor Kiser | Food. Faith. Fitness. This sugar free low carb BBQ sauce will be your go-to all summer long! Slather it all over your favorite grilled meats or dollop onto burgers and sandwiches.
Can I be real with you?
As much as I love the fall, when it’s almost mandatory to eat food like gluten free apple pie bars or pumpkin pie turnovers, my food soul-season is ALWAYS gonna be the SUMMER.
There’s something about the flavor of the kiss of smoke on some paleo indian chicken kebabs or a meaty burger that just FILLS MY SOUL.
The fact that frosty adult beverages, swirling with juicy berries, tropical fruits or pops of ultrafresh mint, are always around doesn’t hurt either.
Sun + frosty bevvie + grill-y goodness = Taylor’s happy place.
Kinda-wanna just hit pause and never let the summer pass me by. Sometimes I wonder why we HAVE to do this whole “change of seasons” thing. It’s really NOT FAIR.
But no use crying over spilled milk.
Now, if it was this keto BBQ sauce recipe that was spilled? FULL PERMISSION TO CRY.
Internet friends. This is one of those STUPID-EASY recipes that I thought I was gonna NAIL in one try. I mean, it’s sauce. You mix stuff together and, liiike, THAT’S IT.
Or so someone who hasn’t ever made a low carb BBQ sauce recipe before would think. There was that one time we had mango curry homemade BBQ sauce, but it was most definitely not boasting anything sugar free.
Friends. Making a tasty, sticky-sweet sauce WITHOUT sugar is, umm, SUPER HARD.
Picture this: MULTIPLE bowls of this sugar free low carb BBQ sauce recipes, all with small changes, littered around my kitchen, with crazy-looking, ripped-out-chicken-scratched-on-lined-paper notes by each one, telling myself what I did differently.
Then, Mr. FFF coming home after a LONG DAY of studying smart-people-anesthesia-things to a wife who POUNCES, asking him to taste ALL varieties and critique (IN DETAIL) every single one.
That man. The fact that he is still married to me boggles my mind sometimes.
Although the Hubster may never want to see this Low carb barbecue sauce recipe ever again after that scarring, traumatic experience, I can tell you that Y-O-U most certainly will.
This sticky-thick sauce has got the perfect, punchy notes of vinegar, without it being overpowering and face-puckeringly bitter. Then there is the deep, rich molasses and slightly sweet tomato flavor profiles with the zesty mustard and celery seed undertones and, finally, that kiss of hickory smoky goodness that I am convinced is the SECRET to BBQ sauce recipe success.
Also: the molasses is KEY. Yes, it does add a little bit of unrefined sugar. But, with only 1 tablespoon in the WHOLE batch? It’s minimal, and really adds a whole lotta SOMETHIN’ SOMETHIN’ to both the smoky-sweet flavor AND the sticky-thickness that you expect from a good ol’ sauce.
It’s the kind of classic summer sauce that you could use on pretty much anything. Slather it on some grilled chicken or drown a burger in it. Heck, use it in your favorite BBQ meatballs recipe or on some chicken wings.
Where you will go is really UP TO YOU.
Be free to run into the summer sun, chasing your bright, BBQ-sauce laden horizons.
