My husband has always been a meat and potatoes type of guy. As a matter of fact, that might have been all he would eat when we first met. I have fined tuned him to also like the vegetables that come with the steak. He even eats Brussel sprouts!

My daughter and son have a similar liking to a good piece of beef. I prefer seafood when eating at a restaurant, but I sure do appreciate a good steak every few weeks also.

The one thing we all agree on is that the ribeye steak is our favorite. It’s very flavorful and easy to cook. It’s a meal that my family will ask for again and again.

A ribeye cut is not the most economical steak to buy, but they are on sale often at my local grocery store. I stock up when I can, and keep several in my freezer. Make sure you know how much prime rib you need per person.

If you want a great steak with the bone in, you can also purchase it at a butcher. The nice thing is that the butcher will custom trim the steak any way you would like.

If I am going to splurge, I buy a thick, two-pound, bone-in ribeye and it is enough to feed my family of four. Garlic rosemary grilled potatoes go great with it, and you won’t have to turn on your oven to bake any potatoes. Cucumber tomato salad is a great choice to start off your meal and the whole family will be happy.

Grilling a good steak is not difficult but you should know what you’re doing. Here are a few tips to serve the best steak possible.

  • Let the steak sit out on the counter for a half hour or so. It is best to have it come to room temperature.
  • Pat dry the steak with paper towels and brush a little olive oil on the steak before seasoning. The seasoning sticks to the steak best this way.
  • Make sure your grill is as hot as you can get it before you start cooking.
  • After the steak is cooked, let it rest on a board for a few minutes before slicing. This will distribute the juices inside.

Knowing how to cook a good steak is an essential in our house. Even my fourteen-year-old son can do it. Grill a good ribeye and your family or guests will think you’re a hero!
