Making your own cocktail sauce is so easy. It’ll save you time and money buying the sweet stuff in the store that never tastes as good as restaurant-style cocktail sauce. That spicy kick and sweet harmony are so heavenly with sautéed garlic shrimp!

As soon as I was old enough to drive, I used to frequent a local restaurant chain for their steak meal deal that came with a shrimp cocktail appetizer. Tried it once, and then avoided it. Until someone I know started dipping fries in it. It’s a spicy ketchup that I totally developed a craving for!

And then I started dipping my shrimp. Maybe I just needed to try it in a different way. Who knows. I love the heat of the horseradish.

I bought two different brands of store-bought cocktail sauce, and both were super sweet, like a ketchup with really small chunks of horseradish. Not impressed. So it couldn’t be that hard right?

It isn’t! Just ketchup, horseradish spread and a little lemon juice. That’s it.

Ground horseradish makes a hotter (and better) cocktail sauce if you like the spicy kick. I do. But there isn’t much use for it at my house, so I just keep the spread on hand.

Sautéed garlic shrimp makes such a fast and impressive appetizer for your cozy little get-togethers, and leaves a lot of time for catching up with your friends.

I don’t know about you but anything with shrimp just seems a little more upscale but it only takes a few minutes to cook.

Can you think of anything better to enjoy while you spend time with a few close friends? Well, maybe a little vino and some dessert, but both of those are easily accomplished when your appetizers take about 10 minutes! These garlic shrimp can even be dinner all by yourself – I won’t tell!

Sautéed Garlic Shrimp Recipe

    6 Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 1 clove Garlic, Smashed and roughly chopped
  • Salt
  • 1 pound Fresh Shrimp, Peeled and deveined

Directions

  1. Preheat a large pan on medium heat.
  2. Add butter and diced garlic.
  3. Cook the garlic for about a minute then remove from the butter.
  4. Now add the shrimp to the pan, season with salt and sauté for 2-3 minutes each side until fully cooked.
  5. Transfer to a serving plate.
  6. Enjoy!

Notes

  • I use horseradish spread on my sandwiches so I always have it on hand. If you only have horseradish root, use quite a bit less and taste it as you go to make sure it’s not too spicy.
  • Sprinkle plain salt on the shrimp if you want or use a salt and parsley mix like I did!
