This chocolate strawberry tart is perfect for a romantic dinner for two. Chocolate crust filled with rich, creamy chocolate ganache and mixed with strawberry preserve, and indulgently topped with dipped strawberries.

Being a stay-at-home mom has always been a dream of mine. I'm thankful for being able to watch my daughter's every step, be close by for every milestone.
We've been together day and night since the day she was born. With the exception of date nights.
Date nights, well-scheduled in the calendar at the beginning of each month, is something both I and my husband are look forward too. Quiet, adult-talk time with no little one to entertain.

Although most of the time we manage to find a sitter so we can go out for a nice dinner, there have been times where date night takes place in our living room. Soft relaxing music, a glass of wine and a decadent dessert is all we need. On one last minute change-of-plans date night, I made this chocolate strawberry tart.
You might think it takes forever to put it together, but you only need half an hour plus a little time to chill in the fridge – just enough time to put on that little black dress.

This chocolate strawberry tart is actually a double chocolate tart. I added some cocoa powder to the crust and the filling is a mixture of melted chocolate and strawberry preserve.
For the finishing touches, dip some fresh strawberries in white or dark chocolate, or white and red like I did. Optionally, you can grate chocolate on top or a dust of powder sugar.
We bet this cookie dough truffles recipe would be pretty fab for date night too. Who needs anything but chocolate on date night anyway?

Chocolate Strawberry Tart Recipe

    12 Servings

tart crust:
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 6 tablespoons Butter, cold and diced
  • 1 large Egg Yolk
tart filling:
  • 3/4 cup Half and Half
  • 3/4 cup Strawberry Preserves
  • 4 ounces Unsweetened Chocolate
  • 4 ounces Semisweet Chocolate
  • 4 tablespoons Butter

For the Tart Crust:

  1. Combine flour, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, butter, and egg yolk together in a food processor. Pulse together until a crumbly dough forms.
  2. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and chill for about 1 hour.
  3. Roll it out on a lightly floured counter - the crust needs to fit a 12" x 4" tart pan. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  4. With a fork, prick the crust all over. Cover with parchment paper and then fill with dry beans or pie weights. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven, remove the dry beans or pie weights, and set aside to cool completely.

For the Chocolate Strawberry Filling:

  1. In a small saucepan add the half and half, butter and chocolate and stir over medium heat until the chocolate is melted and the ganache is smooth and silky.
  2. Remove from the heat and stir in strawberry preserves.
  3. Pour the filling into the baked tart crust and chill for few hours, or until set.
  4. Decorate with grated chocolate, powder sugar or chocolate dipped strawberries.
