One of my favorite things about winter and especially the holidays is the hot cocktails. We spent 4 winters in Colorado before we moved to Texas earlier this year and it was a common thing for me to bundle up and sit on the porch in the middle of the night to watch the snow fall. And I almost always had a steaming mug of hot cider in my hand while I did it.

Hot cider is definitely my winter obsession. I love trying to come up with different ways to make it. Lots of spices, a caramel drizzle, chopped fruit in it, etc.

We have had really warm weather in Texas - like, I’m still wearing flipflops and sleeveless tees - so I haven’t really had the chance to heat up some cider. We had a few chilly days last week and I took full advantage. I think I had cider every night and finally had the brilliant idea to add some cinnamon whiskey on Friday night.

This Hot Spiked Cider recipe is really easy and takes no time to put together. You combine everything but the cinnamon whiskey and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Divide the whiskey into 4 glasses and then top it with the hot cider. It is ready to enjoy after that! Serve it quickly though, you definitely want it to be warm!

If you want to get fancy, top with whipped cream!

If you are having a holiday party soon, think about serving this! If you want to double or triple the recipe for a party, let it simmer and then transfer it to a slow cooker and have the bottle of whiskey next to it. People can pour their own drinks as they want them. And they can skip the whiskey if they aren’t into it!
