Blackberry Cucumber Tarragon Gin Fizz is the refreshing drink of springtime. Full of fresh, flavorful ingredients.

I recently had a conversation with someone about why living in New York City and taking public transportation is so much greater than having to drive everywhere. Yes, with a car there is a lot more freedom than relying on the unreliable schedule that is the MTA, but my hour long commute is so much more productive than yours.

Think about it for a moment - when you drive, you really need to concentrate on the road, the cars around you, the traffic light ahead and any other potential driving conditions. Getting deep into your own thoughts while driving probably isn't the best idea.

Now me, while I'm riding the subway or the bus I can think, and I think a lot. Sometimes it's about my day, my to-do list or stuff that needs to happen in the near future, but for the most part I think about food.

It makes sense, I'm a food blogger, food thoughts run through my head 90% of the time and I'm constantly jotting down those thoughts. Insert this blackberry cucumber tarragon gin fizz.

It originally started out as just a cucumber gin cocktail, and as I continued thinking to myself, I wanted to add more to it. I love herbs in cocktails; they can really compliment the spirit and seasonality of your drink.

Tarragon was the first herb that came to mind, and one that I feel is always under represented. When's the last time you used it? In chicken salad? It's an herb that may not please everyone's palate, but the minty anise flavor plays off the cooling cucumber and botanical gin well. Of course, gin has a strong taste of its own, and I recommend one with more citrus, clean notes than something that tastes like Christmas.

As for those blackberries? I can't resist tossing in berries during springtime and they always look the best, even when all the rest aren't at their peak yet. Plus that purple color is a showstopper.
