Whether you’re a sports fan or not, when the biggest game in football rolls around, it’s time to gather your friends and family for a fun night. You can have some fun talking smack as you cheer on your favorite team, or maybe you really love those creative, funny commercials. I love football, but I always look forward to the commercials more than the game itself.

As everyone comes together it’s nice to have something a little special and out of the ordinary to drink during the festivities. Beer is a must, but then I always like a fun cocktail. Margaritas anyone? Or maybe infused iced tea? Next, you need finger foods. Something easy to nosh on as you chat with your party-goers. That’s where this jalapeño popper bread comes in.

This pull-apart bread is quick and easy to make, which leaves you free to enjoy your party. A tender round boule of bread is cut into deep 1-inch pieces, then into all those divides goes butter, cheese, jalapeños and the only other logical choice clearly would be to add some bacon! This is a loaf of bread that just demands bacon.

Once you slide this loaded loaf into the oven and bake it for a bit, out emerges stringy, melty, cheesy goodness. Pull off a piece and you’ll see what I mean. Just a slight spice tickles your tongue from the jalapeño pieces which plays nicely with the sharpness of the cheddar and saltiness from the bacon. This is perfect game day food, but also makes a great appetizer for any occasion.

Whichever team you're rooting for this coming Sunday, make sure this jalapeño popper bread is part of your party grub. I'd classify it as guy food except that I love it too much! It's just as good for book club.

Looking to round out your game day spread? How about some Sugared Pecans for snacking, and these little Apple Butter Grilled Cheeses!

Jalapeño Popper Bread Recipe

    12 Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 large round loaf Sourdough Bread
  • 1/4 cup Butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons Ranch Dressing Mix
  • 7 slices Bacon, cooked crispy, crumbled or coarsely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
  • 1 jalapeños Jalapeño, large, seeded and finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Parsley, finely chopped

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place a long piece of aluminum foil across a baking sheet vertically then another horizontally, creating a large T.
  2. Using a serrated knife, cut 1-inch slices being sure not to cut all the way through. Turn bread a quarter turn and cut 1-inch slices across the first slices, again not slicing through the bottom of the bread and forming a grid. Place the cut bread onto the center of the baking sheet.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and dry ranch dressing until well combined. Toss 2/3 of crumbled bacon, 1 cup cheddar cheese and the jalapeño pepper. Spoon the mixture into the cut portions of the bread. Wrap the bread loosely in the foil.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Fold back foil to expose the top of the bread. Sprinkle with remaining bacon and cheddar cheese. Continue baking 10 minutes longer until cheese has melted. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve immediately.
